Each June, Pride Month offers us the opportunity to celebrate the diversity, strength, and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community. At Bradford Hate Crime Alliance (BHCA), we stand proudly alongside LGBTQ+ people in Bradford and beyond not only this month, but every month of the year.

Why Pride Matters

Pride is about visibility, acceptance, and love. It’s also a time to reflect on the hard-won rights of LGBTQ+ people and to recognise that there is still work to be done. While we’ve seen progress, discrimination, prejudice, and hate crimes against LGBTQ+ individuals remain a serious concern, even here in Bradford.

That’s why Pride is not just a celebration, it’s a call to action. At BHCA, we’re committed to building a safer, more inclusive Bradford for everyone, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation.

Our Role in Supporting the LGBTQ+ Community

As part of our mission to tackle hate crime and promote understanding across communities, BHCA works closely with LGBTQ+ individuals and organisations. We:

  • Offer confidential support to victims of hate crime, including those targeted for their sexuality or gender identity.
  • Provide training and workshops for schools, employers, and local services to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ hate crime and how to challenge it.
  • Engage in partnership work with local Pride groups, community leaders, and advocacy organisations to create inclusive spaces and stronger networks of solidarity.
  • Encourage reporting of hate incidents, recognising that many still go unreported due to fear, mistrust, or past negative experiences.

We believe that everyone should be able to live without fear, to love, express, and be themselves freely.

This Pride Month: Listen, Learn, and Act

We invite everyone in Bradford to take Pride Month as an opportunity to:

  • Listen to LGBTQ+ voices. Learn from lived experiences.
  • Challenge harmful language, stereotypes, or behaviour wherever you encounter them.
  • Support LGBTQ+ events, charities, and initiatives — not just during June, but all year round.
  • Report hate. If you witness or experience a hate crime, you are not alone. BHCA is here to support you.

Our Message to the LGBTQ+ Community

To our LGBTQ+ neighbours, colleagues, friends, and loved ones: you are valued, you are seen, and you are not alone. We are proud to walk beside you, this Pride Month and every day after.

Let’s continue working together for a future where everyone in Bradford feels safe, respected, and free to be who they are.

Happy Pride! 🌈
